History of the book
The idea for Purpose-Filled Presentations came out of a series of meetings between Tony Jeary and Larry Carpenter. Tony and Larry first met in 2007, while Larry was running FaithWorks, the largest Christian full-service distributor. FaithWorks did the distribution for a book that Tony had co-authored. Tony shared with Larry his desire to write a book designed to help churches be more effective. In April of 2008, Tony spoke at the Thomas Nelson Open House on the subject of effective communications at the bookstore level. At that time, Larry was serving as Vice President of Marketing for Thomas Nelson the largest Christian publisher. Over lunch, the idea of Tony writing a book that teaches anyone in the church how to present more effectively was discussed. By the time the idea had been fleshed out, Larry had accepted the position of President and Publisher of Standard Publishing, so the idea was submitted to Standard. The Acquisition Committee at Standard immediately saw the huge need for this book and agreed to publish the book in June of 2009.
